Lucion Marine: Green Passport expertise around the world. We are the only Lloyds Register accredited provider of Inventory of Hazardous Materials based in the UK
Green Passports for Ships
Lucion Marine is a well established company that provides an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) – also known as ‘Green Passports’ to marine vessels. Lucion Marine can provide an IHM for both old and new build ships. Once obtained, the document will remain with the ship throughout its lifespan and its record of hazards will ensure that health and safety measures are always maintained. This will prevent risk of exposure to asbestos and other toxins.
Asbestos, PCBs, TBT, and CFCs are all dangerous elements that have been, and in some countries of manufacture, are still used in the building of ships. These can be extremely hazardous when disturbed. At Lucion Marine, our highly trained staff can safely detect and manage such risks.
Recent media coverage of the dangers involved in ship breaking has cast an unnecessary negative light on the shipping industry. In order to move past this it is important to support the Basel Convention’s guidelines on the ‘environmentally sound dismantling of ships’:
“Taking all practicable steps to ensure that hazardous wastes or other wastes are managed in a manner which will protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects which may result from such wastes”
Possessing an Inventory of Hazardous Materials on your ships will ensure most importantly that your vessels are safe and your business is at the forefront of progressions within the shipping industry. Your business will further be deemed as socially responsible, sensitive to the issues surrounding ship breaking and a leader in environmental recycling.
This will also mean that your fleet is prepared for future legislation from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the Hong Kong Convention 2009.
Lucion holds accreditation from Lloyd’s Register and UKAS, which enables us to assure you that we will provide for you the highest standard of service available.
